Ed De Varona

Ed De Varona joined the company in December 2025 as Senior Vice President, Electric Business. In this role, Ed oversees all aspects of CenterPoint Energy’s Electric Business in both Texas and Indiana.<br /><br />Ed has more than 34 years in the utility industry, bringing valuable insight and extensive knowledge to CenterPoint from all aspects of utility operations.<br /><br />Prior to joining CenterPoint, Ed held multiple senior leadership roles at both NextEra Energy (NEE) and Florida Power & Light (FPL), including Vice President of Power Delivery and Vice President of Transmission and Substation (T&S) operations. In these roles, Ed oversaw control centers, technology, compliance, reliability, planning, construction, operations, maintenance and restoration of service for FPL’s more than six million customers.<br /><br />Ed also has extensive experience in emergency response and crisis management, having led FLP’s Corporate Emergency Preparedness organization through numerous hurricanes and operations during the pandemic. He also served as the chair of the North American Transmission Forum (NATF), an organization comprised of electric transmission system owners and operators in the United States and Canada that seeks to advance transmission performance and reliability throughout North America.<br /><br />He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida and is a graduate of several leadership and executive development programs.
